Ease of Use:

Overall, we were pleased with how easy Popup Purger Pro was to use. However, we were disappointed with the extra steps required to access the settings screen.

Feature Set:

Popup Purger Pro not only provides you with the tools to block popup and popunder ads, it also has the tools for blocking spyware and adware threats.

The program simply didn't have the number of cleaning options included in our higher-ranked products, however.

Ease of Installation:

We experienced no difficulties installing Popup Purger Pro.

Help/Support:

Popup Purger Pro includes good documentation, including visual examples of how to use the program. You can also reach email support directly from the help options.

Security:

One nice security feature in Popup Purger Pro is the ability to protect your homepage from being hijacked and changed by spyware. We also liked how you can view a log of the different popups that have been blocked.

Effectiveness:

Popup Purger Pro performed above average when it came to blocking most popups, but it did fail to block floating banner ads. It also missed some message dialogs even though we had the setting set to "disallow."

Summary:

Popup Purger Pro has great potential; it was one of the few popup blocker programs that efficiently blocked popups, popunders and other advanced forms of popups. We feel that if Popup Purger Pro had just a few more features like cleaning options, a more advanced blacklist and whitelist feature and the ability to block ads and search ads then it could give our top-ranked product a run for its money.

AdsGone Popup Killer

Ease of Use:

AdsGone Popup Killer includes an easy-to-use control panel where you can adjust the available settings for blocking popups and popunders. The program also includes tools to stop spyware and adware.

AdsGone Popup Killer needs a little improvement with its interface, however. Instead of having just a button to launch the control panel, it would be nice if you could directly access tools from your browser toolbar or with a right-click.

Feature Set:

Even though AdsGone Popup Killer has some nice features such as spyware and adware protection and a free one-year subscription to their privacy protection software, we feel the feature set of AdsGone Popup Killer is an area where they could use some improvement.

One popular new advertising technique is Flash animation; AdsGone Popup Killer is not able to block Flash ads.

Help/Support:

We were impressed with the help and documentation provided with AdsGone Popup Killer. This is one of the only popup blocker programs that we reviewed that provides some sort of tutorial.

Security:

The security features equipped with AdsGone Popup Killer are among the best. Not only does it offer tracks erasing and privacy protection, it also allows you to protect your security settings with a password.

One of the security features we would like to see in future versions of AdsGone Popup Killer is homepage protection.

Effectiveness:

Even though AdsGone Popup Killer performed above-average on the tests we ran it through, it failed to let some good (legitimate) popups activate. It also failed to block some JavaScript popups, on-click popups and delayed popups.

Summary:

Overall, we found AdsGone Popup Killer to be a good popup blocker. It provides some of the best tools for allowing popup ads (a whitelist) and blocking (blacklisting) ads.

Where we feel AdsGone needs improvement to compete with our top-ranked popup blocker is its effectiveness and feature set. If A1 Tech can improve upon these areas, then AdsGone Popup Killer might be able to become the #1-ranked popup blocker program.

Super Ad Blocker

Ease of Use:

Super Ad Blocker is easy to use and understand. Once installed all of its tools and features are available via a single click on your Windows taskbar.

Feature Set:

One unique feature that Super Ad Blocker includes is the ability to block sponsored and search ads, the ads that appear on the top or right side of your screen when using a search engine (such as Google).

The program also does a great job at blocking Flash ads. However, we would like to see future versions display "Ad" or something similar as a placeholder so that you can tell there was an ad there.

Ease of Installation:

Like most popup blocker software, Super Ad Blocker requires you to close any active browser windows before installing it. However, you are told that you need to do so, which allows you to save your work before closing the browser windows.

Help/Support:

The help and documentation support in Super Ad Blocker is excellent. Additionally, their tech support responded to our questions within 24 hours, something that many other popup blocker companies didn't do.

Security:

Super Ad Blocker offers homepage protection, which keeps browser hijackers from changing your homepage without your permission. The program also will clean your tracks, which means that it easily cleans your browser history and cookies. It will even perform a thorough cleaning of your recycle bin.

The one security feature that Super Ad Blocker lacks is the ability to protect your settings with a password. Even though we feel this is a minor security feature, it would be a nice option in future versions.

Effectiveness:

When we ran Super Ad Blocker through a gauntlet of various popups, it successfully blocked all the popups and popunders.

Summary:

We were very pleased with Super Ad Blocker. We felt that it not only performed the best out of the various popup blocker programs that we tested, but it also provided the some of the best features as well.
